The Soulful Music of Edwin McCain
-
One of my favorite artists to listen to when I am working in my home office is Edwin McCain. Most people are familiar with the Top-40 hits like I’ll Be and I Could Not Ask For More because of radio coverage, but unless you have purchased one of the many Edwin McCain Band CD’s produced since 1993, you may have missed what I feel to be some of his best work.
A Greenville, South Carolina native, McCain’s music is a blend of folk, soul, jazz and southern rock. Often referred to as an acoustical story teller, Edwin McCain is a gifted lyricist who writes about life, observations, injustices, personal beliefs, and my favorite subject – love.
In the song Good Enough, McCain talks about breaking the barriers of racial segregation with the lyrics:
“This one’s for the Godfather, Duke, Ella, and the Count,
And for all those who fought their way here no matter the amount,
For all of God’s children walking through dumpsters in the back,
Had to finish their show and leave just because their skin was black.”In the lyrics to Turning Around McCain writes “I broke all the chains that used to tie me down, I’m turning this life around before it’s over” and he speaks of the saving grace of the Lord in Jesus He Loves Me.
I encourage you to explore the vast catalog of music available from The Edwin McCain Band. This is one live show that is on my definite “must see” list. If you have a particular song from Edwin that has special meaning to you or if you have been blessed to see a performance in person, I invite you to share. ~Lisa

Say Anything Lyrics
Artist:Edwin McCain Band(featuring Maia Sharp)Say anything, save everything
If we say nothing this love will die
Give me just one word, you can scream or whisper
If you want to stay with me, tell me why
Say anythingIt’s not that the words aren’t there but they’d only fail my emotions
Just want to feel this way without chaining you down to some old cliche
You want water in my hands and we stand waist deep in the ocean
It’s bigger than the sea, it won’t let meSay just anything, because I feel everything
I’d rather say nothing than the same old lines
I think I give you more, something there’s no words for
You don’t have to hear me to feel me trying
To say anythingBaby I know you try but sometimes I still want to hear it
Even when the waters calm but lately it’s just when there’s something wrong
Why can’t we splash around and hold on to that playful spirit
Oh like we used to do and won’t youSay anything, save everything
If we say nothing this love will die
Give me just one word, you can scream or whisper
If you want to stay with me tell me why
Say anythingThis love is true
Even if you call it by a different name
And it’s still the same, so we’llSay anything, feel everything
I want to be with you so this love can fly
We’ll hang on every word and we’ll scream, we’ll whisper
This moment is waiting for you and I
Say anything
Say anything
